There are not many large, sandy beaches in Paphos, like what happens in  Protaras, Agia Napa, or Limassol. But in addition to those large, well-known beaches, there are many other small, beautiful, and cozy ones, awaiting for you to discover and enjoy them.

Beaches with clear waters and other facilities like change and locker rooms, lifeguards, and access for disabled persons are awarded as Blue Flag Beaches. There are many organized beaches in Paphos region that fulfill these criteria, and this is the reason why there are 18 Blue Flag beaches in Paphos as of 2022.

Best sandy beaches for swimming near Paphos

Geroskipou beach and Pachyammos and Vrysoudia beaches are the best beaches to enjoy in Kato Paphos.
Geroskipou beach is the biggest beach in Kato Paphos area, stretching more than 1100 meters. It is a sandy beach with ample free parking places and a few shops offering refreshments and lite meals. They are very nice, facing the beach and the sea, but like all similar places, they are not cheap. Pachyammos and Vrysoudia beaches are typical Kato Paphos beaches. Small, with fine sand, easily accessible even on foot.
Coral Bay beach and Laourou beach are the two best sandy beaches in Paphos. Both are located in the Coral Bay area. All five beaches are excellent choices for families, with safeguards available most of the day and many facilities. They are all Blue Flag beaches.

Best sandy beaches for swimming near Polis and Latchi

The Dasoudi beach (also known as Polis Camping Site beach), the Polis Municipal Beach, and the Latchi beach are the three best beaches near Polis. They are easily accessible even on foot, depending on where you stay, and family-friendly with the facilities they offer. There are a few other very nice sandy beaches around Polis Chrysochous, but you will need transportation. There are bus connections to many of these beaches.

Petra tou Romiou or Aphrodites Rock beachThree unique beaches in Paphos

The first beach on this shortlist is Petra tou Romiou, the Aphrodite's Rock beach. As a beach is not something special. It is a pebble beach with waters that are relatively deep and sometimes rough. It is between Paphos and Limassol, but closer to Paphos,
What is special about this beach are the breathtaking views of the seashore and the spectacular sunsets. Many come here just to see the sunset.
And then, you have to add the myths and stories from thousands of years back, surrounding this mythical place. Considered the birthplace of Aphrodite from ancient times, and then there are stories and myths from medieval times, about fights between the guards of Cyprus, especially one mythical person named Digenis, and the Arabs who made raids and terrified the Mediterranean Sea during that period.
Adding all these together, it definitely deserves the title of the most unique beach. After all, you don't have often the opportunity to swim in the same waters where the Goddes of Love and Beauty was born!

The second beach is the Paphos Municipal beach, also known as Ta Mpania. Lying in the heart of Kato Paphos, it is easily accessible on foot or by bus, as there is a bus stop just next to the beach.
It is not like an ordinary beach, as there is no beach at all, but something like a small, elevated promenade. What makes it special is the fact that it is the place where many locals meet early in the morning, all year round, for their bath. It is not just for swimming, it is also a social place for those going there. Even during winter most of the swimmers visit the beach for swimming early in the morning. They also celebrate Christmas and New Year holidays here!
Paphos Municipal Beach location is in the Kato Paphos Port, opposite the castle. So you enjoy the views of the Castle and the fishing harbour while swimming or socializing. If you visit the beach early in the morning, you can mingle with them. As we said, they are on the beach every day, all year round.
Ta Mpania, the cafeteria at this unique beach, is the meeting point for the swimmers but also accepts everybody for a drink or for food. Their menu is mainly Cyprus cuisine meat cooked on charcoal. You can visit the beach and enjoy your bath (the waters are crystal clear as this is another Blue Flag beach).  and also enjoy a refreshment or lunch, sitting just a meter or two from the sea.

The third beach is the most remote on this shortlist. You must visit the Akamas National park, about twenty-five kilometers driving distance from Kato Paphos, the heart of Paphos tourism. The Turtles Bay beach in Akamas is perfect for wildlife watching as Careta-Careta and Green turtles come and lay their eggs on this beach. It is a wonderful beach with fine sand. When there, enjoy your bath with care, so you will not destroy the turtles' hatches, which belong to endangered species.
