Paphos weather averages
Compared to the rest of Cyprus, on average weather in Paphos is cooler by 2 to 3 degrees during the summer and warmer by 2 to 3 degrees during the winter, so you can consider Paphos as the privileged area of Cyprus when it comes to weather. On the other hand, humidity during the summer months is usually higher that the rest of Cyprus. Increased humidity in hot days increases the feeling of discomfort, so on hot days with increased humidity (which are not uncommon in the summer) younger children and older people is advisable to avoid direct exposure to the sun in the middle of the day. This said, increased humidity usually appears between noon and 8-9 in the evening, after that time the weather is usually more tolerable.
Paphos can also be divided into three distinctive areas as regards temperature and climate - and not only - , the coastal Paphos area which covers the area from Kato Paphos tourist area and Paphos old town through to Coral Bay and Peyia, the inland mountainous Paphos which covers the central Paphos with its many beautiful villages and Polis region to the north.
Paphos weather and climate averages during the winter months of December, January and February
Paphos coastal area and Polis area enjoy the mildest climate during the winter months of December, January and February. Temperature in coastal Paphos is usually a bit higher than Polis area, on average 15 to 19 degrees during the day and around 10 during the night. Polis temperatures are 1 to 2 degrees lower, but both areas enjoy same hours of sunshine, about 6 to 7 per day. On the mountains of Paphos, the climate and the weather is much more like Troodos. Temperatures can be up to 7-8 degrees lower just 15 minutes drive (15 to 20 km distance) from Kato Paphos. Compared to the rest of coastal Cyprus, Paphos also is the most rainy area during the winter. The occasional very cold day is not unusual during the winter months. On the mountains surrounding Paphos it is not unusual to have snowfall, but it does not happen every year, maybe once every 2 or 3 years, usually in January or early February.
Snowfall provides both the local people and visitors with the opportunity for an excursion to the snow, which usually lasts 1 to 3 days before it melts.
Paphos weather and climate averages during March and April
March and April are the months of spring. Generally, most of the days during March and April are rated from good to wonderful, but a few "bad" days, especially in the first weeks of March, can be expected. Daily temperatures all over Paphos are between 17 and 22, but towards the end of April low twenties is the usual. Night temperatures are still low, between 12 and 15 degrees and even lower at the mountains. There will be 5-6 rainy days during these two months, but usually rain does not last more than an hour or so and after that the sun is back. Sunshine increases to 9 to 11 hours per day.
Paphos weather and climate averages during May and June
Summer is here for good, but the temperatures during May and June are lower than those of July and August, the hottest months of the year. It is the period of the year when the endless sunny days begin, and when you don't have to check out the weather again, probably until mid-September. Why? Well, consider this as the weather forecast for any day during summer in Paphos, or Cyprus: the weather will be hot, temperature around 28 degrees (okay, depending on the month, between 27 and 32 degrees :-) the sun will be bright with zero chance for rain.
Average day temperatures during May and June are 25 to 28 degrees, with 12 to 13 hours of sunshine per day. Night temperatures are 17 to 20 degrees. During this period the climate difference with the central mountainous Paphos becomes more obvious, with lower day and night temperatures of 2 to 4 degrees compared to coastal Paphos and Polis area and lower humidity as well. Polis area is a bit hotter but with less humidity compared to Paphos area.
Weather in Paphos and climate averages during July and August
July and August are the hottest months of the year, with day temperatures around 30 degrees in Paphos area, 1-2 degrees higher for Polis area and 1-2 degrees lower for central mountainous Paphos. Night temperatures are in the low twenties and daily sunshine 13 to 14 hours. It is hot everywhere, no better place to be than next to or in the sea!
Weather in Paphos and climate averages in September, October and November
September and up to the middle of October is still summer but the daylight slowly but steadily becomes less and temperatures as we proceed from September to October drop from 30 degrees in the first week of September to 25 degrees during October and November. Sunshine drops from 12 hours in early September to 8 to 10 hours in October and further drop to around 7 hours during November. Night temperatures drop, especially in the central Paphos and the mountains.
Third and fourth week of October, along with November, can be considered to be the autumn in Cyprus. A few rainy days can be expected in October (2 to 4), and 8 to 10 rainy days in November. It is seldom to have rain in September.
